Kobe Bryant Prepare For Combat Nike Ad Gun ControversyLebron James Nike Gun Ad Controversy

An advertisement featuring two of basketball’s biggest superstars is causing a stir over an alleged gun reference — less than a week after two NBA players were suspended for carrying firearms to the locker room.

The Nike ad, which appears in several publications including Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine, features LeBron James and Kobe Bryant posing next to the quote: “Prepare For Combat: I’ll Do Whatever It Takes To Win Games. I Don’t Leave Anything In The Chamber….”

The word “chamber” is creating controversy, with some sports fans claiming the remark is a reference to firearms. Nike contends that the ad has nothing to do with gun violence.

<em>“The Nike print ad featuring Kobe Bryant was intended to illustrate his all out play and commitment on the basketball court,” Nike said in a statement last week. <em>“It is a commonly used reference for shooting the basketball and no offense was intended.”

The NBA has called the “Prepare For Combat” campaign “inappropriate.”

Wyclef Jean Calls For Aid After Devastating Earthquake Hits Haiti

Wyclef Jean is asking friends and fans to pray for the people of his native Haiti after the island was hit by deadly earthquake on Tuesday. Reports suggest the triple quake caused the collapse of buildings, including a hospital, which tumbled into a ravine.

“It is really a catastrophe of major proportions,” Raymond Joseph, the US ambassador to Haiti, said late Tuesday. Many of the buildings in Haiti are made of concrete and the ravished city is now jsut a cloud of dust. Officials note that there is a serious loss of life expected. The former Fugees star is asking for assistance for victims of a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck near the capital this afternoon.

“Haiti today faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced,” Wyclef began in a release this evening. “The magnitude 7.0 earthquake — and several very strong aftershocks — struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince. I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse. The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone. We must act now,” the “Gone ‘Til November” rapper continued.

“President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people. The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately. They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”

Those who would like to help with the Quake Relief Efforts, may donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund by texting “Yele” to 501501 (the amount will be charged to the person’s cell phone bill) or or can visit www.Yele.org and click “Donate.”

Daddy Knowles is being sent “To The Left, To The Left.” Michelle Williams has become the latest former Child of Destiny to part ways with Beyonce’s manager dad Mathew Knowles. The singer has been managed by her former bandmate’s father since she joined the now defunct girl band in 2000, but on Tuesday, Michelle announced that she is parting ways with Knowles and his Music World Entertainment company so she can take her career “in a new direction.”

The move comes a year after ex-bandmate Kelly Rowland ditched Knowles as her manager.

“After much prayer and consideration I have decided to part ways from my management team, Mathew Knowles and Music World Entertainment,” Williams, who will take over the role of Roxie in the Broadway play Chicago next month,” said in a statement this week. “From my time in Destiny’s Child to my solo career, I am grateful for everything Mathew and his team has done for me. We’ve shared great success together. However, as I move in a new direction in my career, I felt it was time. I wish Mathew Knowles and the Music World Entertainment family all the best.”
